Rural Women’s Cooperative Unveils Strategic Plan

Women’s Fund Fiji (WFF) proudly reaffirms its dedication to fostering women’s leadership and catalyzing community transformation. This commitment was exemplified today as the Bia-i-Cake Women’s Cooperative celebrated a historic milestone with the launch of its 5-Year Strategic Plan.

The event, officiated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs, and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, underscored the cooperative’s remarkable progress toward economic independence and sustainable development. This achievement was made possible through the steadfast support of WFF and its partners.

The Bia-i-Cake Women’s Cooperative, based in Nagigi Village, Cakaudrove Province, Fiji, was established in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting as an informal group of just 10 women, it has since grown to over 50 members, united by a shared mission of empowering women through sustainable livelihoods, economic independence, and community-driven development.

Chairperson of the Bia-i-Cake Women’s Cooperative Alisi Lutu expressed heartfelt gratitude to Women’s Fund Fiji for their pivotal role in this journey.

“We are deeply grateful to Women’s Fund Fiji for believing in our vision and supporting us in achieving this significant milestone. Your unwavering encouragement inspires us to continue striving for a brighter future,” she said.

She further highlighted the importance of the Strategic Plan as a catalyst for new beginnings.
“This marks the start of an exciting chapter for us as we approach 2025 with renewed hope, purpose, and pride.”

The development of the Strategic Plan, supported by WFF’s funding under the thematic area of Women’s Leadership, is accompanied by the creation of a new logo, symbolizing a revitalized vision and direction for the cooperative. These efforts align with WFF’s mission to empower women as leaders and changemakers in their communities.

In addition to the Strategic Plan, WFF continues to support the cooperative’s tilapia farm, a vital initiative ensuring sustainable livelihoods and food security for the community. The farm exemplifies the cooperative’s commitment to resilience and reducing dependence on external resources.

Another highlight of the event was the unveiling of a newly established greenhouse, made possible through a partnership with British American Tobacco (BAT) that will enable cooperative members to enhance farming techniques, diversify crops, and contribute meaningfully to the community’s economic growth.

For Women’s Fund Fiji, this milestone reflects a broader vision of empowering women to drive development and lead transformative initiatives that benefit entire communities.
