Revitalized Ba Disabled People’s Association Opens New Opportunities for Empowerment and Inclusion

The revival of the Ba branch of the Fiji Disabled People’s Federation (FDPF) after four years of inactivity has significantly impacted the local community of persons with disabilities. Under the leadership of Kinisimere Lagilagi, the association is driving positive changes, including enhanced accessibility in the community. With over 50 active members, the branch is now effectively advocating for the rights and welfare of its members, empowering them to engage meaningfully in their communities and fostering a sense of belonging and recognition. This revitalization through Fiji Disabled People's Federation's Strengthening Organisation Project supported by Women's Fund Fiji (WFF) has opened new opportunities for support and resources, transforming lives and promoting inclusivity for persons with disabilities in Ba.

Centre helps women build confidence, improve skill set

The Almanah Hope Centre is dedicated to helping marginalised women improve their lives through empowerment and capacity-building programs. Their core program, ‘Confident Woman’, teaches essential personal development and life skills and is complemented by short technical courses offered several times a year. Through these training programs, the centre is helping women build a strong foundation to enhance their personal, social and economic wellbeing.

Skills training empowers women on island

A team of 14 women leaders has started a new skills training project to empower women on Taveuni island. Over the past year, the Taveuni Empowerment of Women Support Group (TEWSG) has been providing training in beekeeping, floriculture, handicrafts and backyard gardening to women from various communities across the island.
