The Soroptimist International Sigatoka Club is part of a global movement of women with members belonging to more than 3,000 clubs in 126 countries. In Fiji, it is 1 of 7 clubs with the aim to inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls by advocating for equity and equality, creating safe and healthy environments, increasing access to education and developing leadership and practical skills for a sustainable future.

Project Date: 12 months (July 2020 – June 2021)
Grant Value: FJD 50,000
Area of Focus: Boosting economic empowerment

While there are many established organisations and clubs operating in Sigatoka, Soroptimist International Sigatoka Club is the only club catering solely to the needs of women. The club provides training and awareness programs, networking opportunities and income-generating activities for its members main based in Sigatoka.

Through funding support from the Fiji Women’s Fund, the club aims to expand its services to include women in the Nadroga-Navosa region and to develop overall goals for the organisation for long-term sustainability. The club would also like to enhance their understanding of barriers and opportunities for gender equality and inclusion at the organisational level and in personal lives.

The club will collaborate with community leaders, other civil society organisations, women leaders, youth leaders and relevant government stakeholders to implement this project.
